Making People Lazy
Bill Oliver, a Canadian politician read out an AI generated speech, completed with the line “Here’s a more natural, flowing version of that section that reads like a legislative speech rather than a series of short points”, because this is now standard.
Coming up with sentences is hard. Writing is hard, and thinking is hard. It’s the Current Year and so of course outsourcing your thinking and writing to chatbots is now completely normal.
People are asking chatbots how to reply to texts from their friends. People are asking chatbots what to order from restaurants. People are getting chatbots to write business emails for them, and entire speeches.
Remember, these are skills, use them or lose them. Eventually the skill of writing and even thinking will become a rare and valuable commodity, if it isn’t already.
This is all sold to us as a huge time-saver. You could be doing more important things with your time than reading, writing and thinking… that’s the sales pitch.
Like what? What is more valuable and important than maintaining your ability to communicate properly with other people? Convenience is the path to atrophy, which is best avoided.
